Meet our 2022 scholarship winners, and see why I believe dyslexia is a blessing

It’s our second year of giving out $500 scholarships to deserving high school students, and we couldn’t be more excited.

The Andrea R. Lacy “Grit Award” Scholarship is given to high school seniors who have shown tenacity in overcoming challenges, and who now wish to build on their success by pursuing higher education or vocational training. A portion of every Luv’s Brownies purchase goes toward the scholarship fund.

Meet our 2022 “Grit Award” Scholarship winners.

We’re incredibly honored to recognize the following future leaders with the “Grit Award” Scholarship:

  • Ashley graduated from San Jose High School in San Jose, California, and is now attending Duke University.

  • Diante graduated from Lima Senior High School in Lima, Ohio, and is now attending The Ohio State University.

  • Tiana graduated from Downtown College Prep Alum Rock High School in San Jose, California, and is now attending University of California, Berkeley.

Using our bakery to inspire hope and raise awareness.

Luv’s Brownies always strives to be more than a bakery. As part of the Bay Area community for more than 25 years, we want to bring hope to anyone who has struggled with failure and challenges.

When I was working on my undergraduate degree at San Jose State University and failed the same math class multiple times, I often felt like I just wanted to give up. Soon after, when I was diagnosed with dyslexia, something inside told me to keep trying and keep going. I did, and my tenacity and grit have paid off. Now I see dyslexia as my superpower — it’s truly been a blessing in disguise.

My experience taught me that education is the key to a brighter future, and learning is a lifelong process. That’s why Luv’s Brownies is committed to supporting students as they work through their challenges and continue their educations.

A big “thank you” to those who have supported me and Luv’s Brownies.

Throughout my life, I have had so many great mentors, counselors, and teachers. Our scholarship foundation is a way of me paying it forward in the name of these great people and organizations that have supported our business. Here’s a partial 2022 list:
